Cool Antonia,

Well written. And though folks can really throw out the jargon, meditation on impermanence is a foundation in all spiritual paths, as even a downer rut is impermanent.

This is a bit of a stretch, and esoteric, but all of the oldest Mother Goddesses, also of mystery traditions, were also Goddesses of Death, or of the Battlefield. Ravens, Dogs, were totemic symbols as they fed off of the starkest representation of impermanence, a corpse.

Black Kali is often seen standing on either an immobilized male or white male corpse (this aspect also symbolized absolute stillness and surrender in meditation or perspective).

The Dakshinamurti (Shiva) temples in India all face South, the direction of death and the iconography indicates this is direction of Kali as well.

I have often wondered at this passage of Jesus...

Jesus Christ is quoted in the bible (Matthew 12: 38-42) saying "The Queen of the South will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here." (Matthew 12: 38-42) (Luke 11: 31)

Have often wondered if Queen of South was a similar Judaic understanding of "Death", similar to judgement of Egyptian African Ma'at, who weighed heart against a feather in the after life.

The Queen of the South takes EVERY generation, doesn't she! (but also the creatress).

Also interestingly Queen of the South is an alternative title for the Queen of Sheba and also for Kandake, the title for African female rulers.

Now just read somewhere Thich Nhat Hanh says that Samadhi (bliss, or bliss in moment) is naturally maintained by a constant and eventually intuitive realization of impermanence.

And even in one of my "husbandly" moments watching America's Top Model with my wife, I think either Tyra Banks or one of the Judges said "This to shall pass". I guess though this might get strong reaction if given as advice to someone in the agonies of kidney stones or extreme constipation, so certainly a thought to cultivate constantly in preparation for such extreme moments.

Peace, and again, what YOU wrote, couldn't have said it better.

Thank You Antonia,

This is some wisdom that comes in handy when we're going through hard times.
I'm having problems with my brother and that really sucks. But your blog reminds me that this too shall pass.

Peace,
La Chica
